Hello from the family!
We are a family of five with three young children - Harry, Finn, and Willow. Being an expat family in Singapore for the past six years, and with limited roots in our home countries, we dreamt of providing a place for the family to gather and create memories in the years to come, a Home-away-from-Home. Following our first family holiday in Bali in March 2019 we immediately fell in love with the island and the people, as did the children. We knew this was the place we wanted to realize our dream.
OUR DESIGN JOURNEY
We chose the name Umbala (which means color in Zulu) to reflect the villa’s unique interior. Right from the very beginning, we knew we wanted to step out of the typical Bali villa style. We sought to create a homey space, while retaining the open living aspect that people love in Bali. We began our design journey shortly before the pandemic, so there was the additional challenge of managing a build remotely. Over the course of three years, we worked closely with the renowned Singapore firm E&A Interiors to bring Umbala The House to life. Although the villa was always intended to be rented out, we treated the entire design process as if we were creating our home. This meant selecting the finest finishes, leaving no details unturned, and designing for the wellbeing of families. We hope that this wonderful space well represents the collaboration, time, and love that went into its creation.
